Mark's Fresh Fish

I guess it's somewhat ironic that being in the construction industry, it's destroy damaged and dilapidated buildings, particularly old sheds that excite me. I have a massive collection of photos I've taken in random places over the years of these properties (potential sites) and I may stick a few photos up here every so often.

I'm fascinated by the challenge architect's face in re-using/redeveloping existing properties and the decisions they make in various situations, whether it is to conserve, reuse, demolish, etc, it can be so much more interesting than just creating from new.

  1. Where is that? I had a concept when I was doing my Part 1 placement year that I tentatively titled "Guerilla Surveying". My idea was to survey dilapidated structures that existed in my locality (Northumberland at the time) and propose a couple of quick design options. One particular building really inspired me and that was a run-down former blacksmiths. It has now been developed in a typically unsympathetic way, with it's iconic chimney being removed!

  2. it's out at Sandend. The back of its been burnt out. It's an amazing site, with brilliant views out over the beach. Would be a brilliant site for a wee holiday home.

I like the idea of the recording of old buildings, maybe keeping a wee database of these buildings that are left to fall apart , to then be replaced with characterless properties.
