JR WOMEN ARE HEROES
I just ordered a copy of JR's women are heroes book. And I can't wait to get it. I love the work of JR, whether its his beautiful portrait photography or his street art, the guys got skills.
This book is a collection of his latest work, focusing on portraiture of women and displaying these works in some very deprived, but beautiful locations.
His website has some brilliant images- http://jr-art.net/

Stockholm Library, Stockholm - Erik Gunnar Asplund
When studying in my Honours year at university we undertook a trip to Stockholm. We had particular interest in the Stockholm Library by Erik Gunnar Asplund, as it was at the centre of a international architecture competition. I think you would struggle to find someone who doesn't find the central library space inspiring. It's fantastic and if your in Stockholm you have to visit this building.
SWISS EMBASSY, BERLIN - DIENER AND DIENER
The Swiss Embassy in Berlin is located on the Spreebogen near the Reichstag. Apart from the Reichstag it is the only prewar building remaining in the area, built in 1870. Following German reunification a contemporary extension was added to the building in 1998-2000 by Swiss architects Diener and Diener.
Unfortunately me and my mates couldn't blag our way into this building with the Architecture student chat, maybe next time.

Fire And Police Station, Berlin - Sauerburch Hutton Architects
This is a building that I cant wait to revisit. I was fortunate enough to get a tour of this governmental police and fire station in Berlin in 2008 by an architect from Sauerbruch and Hutton and when I go back to Berlin this year there is talk of having another quick tour.
The project is a renovation and extension of a former goods yard building. The extension the the 19th century building houses the majority of accommodation, with the existing building used as the entrance and some office space. The colour scheme is a representation of the colours of the Berlin police and fire departments, running from tones of green to red.

SANAA _ New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York
So I was in New York not long ago and thought I would have a look back through some of the pictures I took there. This photograph is of a building that has been completed in the last couple of years, designed by SANAA.
As a space for art it seems to work brilliantly, and it looks pretty nice too. If your in New York This place is defiently worth a visit, even if it is to just sit in the coffee shop and watch some of the artists at work in one of the large studio through the glazed partitions.

Railway Switching Station, Zurich by Gigon + Guyer
I've been looking through some of my old photographs and rediscovered quite a few nice buildings I have visited. The first I'm going to post up is this switching station in Zurich by Gigon + Guyer. It's a simple yet striking building, addressing the nature of it's site in a contemporary way.
The Dovecot Studio by Haworth Tompkins
This project is brilliant. What a great example of contemporary architecture working with an existing structure. I do enjoy a bit of corten, and when you mix it with a crumbly old building your onto a winner.

Mark's Fresh Fish
I guess it's somewhat ironic that being in the construction industry, it's destroy damaged and dilapidated buildings, particularly old sheds that excite me. I have a massive collection of photos I've taken in random places over the years of these properties (potential sites) and I may stick a few photos up here every so often.
I'm fascinated by the challenge architect's face in re-using/redeveloping existing properties and the decisions they make in various situations, whether it is to conserve, reuse, demolish, etc, it can be so much more interesting than just creating from new.

FCB STUDIOS - BROADCASTING PLACE
I was recently sent a link from one of my mates telling me to have a look at the work of FeildenCleggBradleyStudios, and Im really glad I did. Having worked on numerous student accommodation projects Broadcasting Place instantly caught my eye, and it looks brilliant.
To be able to bring such interest to a project that will be commercially driven is fantastic and something that I would like to see happen with more projects of this nature. I will defintely be taking some time to take a good look through the rest of the practices website.

DAVID GALLETLY - Art, illustration and other junk from Stirling, Scotland
I recently discovered the work of David Galletly and some of it is just awesome. He's done a couple of brilliant vinyly sleeves for the band Be a Familiar that I enjoyed and I really think some time should be taken to have a look through his portfolio, there are a good few gems in there.

2G Sauerbruch Hutton
I just recieved my copy of Sauerbruch Hutton's 2G and it looks great. Some brilliant examples of using colour in a buildings elevation.
Its got me really excited about heading to Berlin in April to see some of their works again, particularly the Fire/Police departments building. If I get a chance I may look back through my photos of some of their work and post them up.
