KOLLHOFF TOWER, BERLIN - KOLLHOFF AND TIMMERMANN ARCHITECTS

Stockholm Library, Stockholm - Erik Gunnar Asplund

When studying in my Honours year at university we undertook a trip to Stockholm. We had particular interest in the Stockholm Library by Erik Gunnar Asplund, as it was at the centre of a international architecture competition. I think you would struggle to find someone who doesn't find the central library space inspiring. It's fantastic and if your in Stockholm you have to visit this building.

SWISS EMBASSY, BERLIN - DIENER AND DIENER

The Swiss Embassy in Berlin is located on the Spreebogen near the Reichstag. Apart from the Reichstag it is the only prewar building remaining in the area, built in 1870. Following German reunification a contemporary extension was added to the building in 1998-2000 by Swiss architects Diener and Diener.

Unfortunately me and my mates couldn't blag our way into this building with the Architecture student chat, maybe next time.

Fire And Police Station, Berlin - Sauerburch Hutton Architects

This is a building that I cant wait to revisit. I was fortunate enough to get a tour of this governmental police and fire station in Berlin in 2008 by an architect from Sauerbruch and Hutton and when I go back to Berlin this year there is talk of having another quick tour.

The project is a renovation and extension of a former goods yard building. The extension the the 19th century building houses the majority of accommodation, with the existing building used as the entrance and some office space. The colour scheme is a representation of the colours of the Berlin police and fire departments, running from tones of green to red.

BEACH SHELTER

I've always loved the beach. Whether its for surfing, skimboarding or just taking a walk I can always clear my head there.

SANAA _ New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York

So I was in New York not long ago and thought I would have a look back through some of the pictures I took there. This photograph is of a building that has been completed in the last couple of years, designed by SANAA.

As a space for art it seems to work brilliantly, and it looks pretty nice too. If your in New York This place is defiently worth a visit, even if it is to just sit in the coffee shop and watch some of the artists at work in one of the large studio through the glazed partitions.
